Primary Care

The Library at Whiston offers services and resources to staff and students working in primary care in the Halton, Knowsley or St Helens areas.
Our services include literature searching, library training in how to access and use resources, a current awareness service and document supply. You also have access to the resources below.
To use the online resources you will need an NHS OpenAthens ID and password.

- NHS Knowledge and Library Hub
Healthcare evidence and knowledge is now a simple search away. Use the Hub to find journals, full-text articles, e-books, trusted decision-making tools NICE pathways, guidelines and clinical databases.

You have access to a number of databases including Medline, Embase and Cinahl for more advanced searching.

- BMJ Best Practice

BMJ Best Practice provides step by step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention on over 30 specialties. Login using your NHS OpenAthens account and then create a free personal account which will give you to access BMJ Best Practice anywhere. Download the app and track your CME/CPD activity.
- Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS)
Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) are produced by NICE and provide primary care practitioners with a readily accessible summary of the current evidence base and practical guidance on best practice in respect of over 330 common and/or significant primary care presentations.
