Is it Research?

The first question to ask when setting up a study is "Is it Research?"

To help you decide whether your study is classified as research you should refer to the HRA Decision Tool or Defining Research Leaflet.

If you are a student please use the student toolkit on the HRA Website.

These will help you decide whether you study is one of the following:

• Audit - contact the Clinical Audit Department for further guidance.
• Service Evaluation/Development - contact Clinical Audit to log the study/project and gain written approval from the Head of the Department before participating.
• Research - refer to the Undertaking Research at MWL page.
