Print Books
You will need to join the library to borrow books. All our books can be found on the NoW library catalogue. When you join the library you will be emailed an electronic library barcode which you can use to reserve and renew books from any NoW library online via the catalogue. You can also request a library card with the barcode or a barcode sticker for your Trust badge.
As well as clinical books, we also have collections of management, fiction, leisure reading, wellbeing and sustainability titles available for you to borrow.

E-Books
We have over 900 e-books available to read online. You can access them from the library catalogue with an NHS OpenAthens account. You will need to click the link next to 'Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Library' for each e-book.
The books can be accessed from PCs, laptops and mobile devices.

Self-Issue Machines
The libraries at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk all have a self-issue machine which you can use to issue, return and renew books at any time. When you join the library, you will be sent a library barcode which can be used to access your account on the machines.
Request a Book
If you can't find the book you want on our catalogue you can request it from the library and we will try and borrow the book from another library for you.
Suggest New Stock
If the Library does not hold the resource you require and you believe it to be useful to the organisation please use our online form to suggest new stock.

ClinicalKey E-Books
ClinicalKey gives you online access to over 130 medical reference books across 5 specialties.
You can access them through the library catalogue or you can download the ClinicalKey app on to your mobile device via Google Play or the App store.
The first time that you login to ClinicalKey you will need to activate your account to access resources. You do this by clicking on the small arrow at the top on the right hand side at the end of the organisation name.

The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures
This resource provides you with the latest evidence-based clinical nursing skills and processes to deliver exceptional patient care. It includes over 350 procedures, including illustrations and videos.
You will need an NHS OpenAthens account to access this resource.

Oxford Medical Handbooks
Giving you online access to over 240 handbooks and textbooks written for a broad medical readership - from students, junior doctors and specialist trainees, to nurses, dentists, paramedics and allied health professionals.
